The
Old Harbour has become one of Weymouth's most popular areas
with both visitors and locals.
It has successfully moved into the 21st century without losing
its 17th century charm and character. Pretty terraced cottages
are interspersed with individual shops and restaurants and old
warehouses have been sympathetically converted to house visitor
attractions. You'll find the local fish market right on the
harbour side, so look out for the boats as they land their catches
of crabs, lobsters and other favourites.
Visiting yachts, with their colourful sails and cosmopolitan
crews, give the area a continental flavour and the sight of
the Town Bridge being lifted to allow the tall-masted yachts
in and out of the inner harbour is a popular sight.
Brewers Quay in Hope Square houses a unique under-cover shopping
village as well as the Timewalk - a journey back in time to
discover Weymouth's fascinating history.
Throughout the summer, and even on balmy out-of-season days,
the area is a magnet for those who want to relax over a bite
to eat in the sunshine whilst watching the world go by. There's
no place quite like it - with something of interest for all
ages make sure it's on your itinerary.
